Hamilton Watch Overhaul Service
Service of a 1941 Hamilton 4992B, 22 Jewel, 16s Issued Military Pocket Watch
This 1941 Hamilton 4992B made during WW2 and features the 24-hour military dial was sent in for an overhaul service. These watches continue to amaze me with the quality and accuracy. Made during a time of no computers or CNC machines. Yet this watch was made with such precision some 77 years ago. The accuracy was essential during the war. Service men that used the watch needed to know exactly what time it was. The 4992B has the famed hack feature which allows the watch to stop while setting the time for precise time setting.
Starting to disassemble the watch, I found some old grease in the movement that was starting to turn hard. This is normal and the reason why a watch should have an overhaul cleaning every few years or so. A couple of the screws were loose but overall the movement is in excellent condition. The movement was then disassembled and thoroughly cleaned. The movement was reassembled and lubricated. The assembled watch was placed on extended testing. Repair Complete.
