Vintage Elgin Wristwatch Repair
Overhaul Service of an Elgin A-11 Caliber 539 Military Wristwatch
This Elgin A-11 Wristwatch was overhauled and restored to running condition. The watch is a family heirloom passed down. Some history of the person who owned the watch is provided below by the son.
I am attaching a couple of photos so you can meet the man who wore this watch. One picture of him is in the cockpit of what I believe is a B-29 which he flew towards the end of the war (he flew just about every plane made). Another photo was taken in the early days (probably 1942) with Benjamin O. (“Bennie O”) Davis. Davis later became the commander of the legendary Tuskegee Airmen. He and my father had a friendship which continued up until Bennie was transferred to the European theater and my father went to the Pacific. My father stayed in the Army Air Corp which later became the Air Force and retired in 1978 as a 1-star general.
The Elgin A-11 was the most iconic military watch that was worn by many brave soldiers and airmen during World War II. The watch was rugged, reliable and has a hack feature, perfect for timing and running missions. The black dial and pronounced hands make the watch a classic in American Watchmaking and is sought after by collectors today. This watch was disassembled and cleaned, reassembled and lubricated. A new crystal was installed. The paint restored on the hands. The watch was placed on extended testing. Overhaul Watch Repair Complete.
