Wyler Wristwatch Repair
Overhaul Service of a Vintage Wyler Wristwatch, belonging to the Founder of the Space Age Museum
Somewhere located in northwestern Connecticut, is an amazing collection of spaceships, rocketships, robots and tons of memorbila from the dawn of the space age. A 30 plus year collection of over 10,000 pieces that reflect the cultural history of the space age. Items mainly from the 1950’s and 60’s when anything “space” meant progress. Large and small items used by everyday people in the culture to promote the idea of progress. This was a golden time in the culture when people had a positive sense of the unlimited future and hope fueled by space travel and beyond.
This massive collection of retro futustic artifacts, is the work of a father and son team, John and Peter Kleeman and their families, friends and anyone that shares the same passion. Items were found from years of searching through flea markets and scrap yards. Large and small items, from photographs to giant rocketships. This amazing collection is stored in a large barn not currently open to the public. The Space Age Museum can be toured on-line at spaceagemusem.com and some private tours. This posting is about the restoration of the watch worn by the founder of the museum, John Kleeman. The watch has been restored and is now back on his wrist. The watch restoration was a Christmas present by his son Peter and family. Peter says “My father got this watch in the early 60s and wore it for 20 years before it stopped working. It then sat in the back of a drawer until I sent it in for revival. I have vague early memories of it and then rediscovered it by watching old family films, so he dug it out for me.”
Nice Documentary
The watch was disassembled and cleaned. Reassembled, lubricated and adjusted. Regulated and repaired. Watch placed on extended testing. Watch overhaul complete.
