Vintage Bulova Sea King Restoration
Repair Service of a Rusted Bulova 11BLC 17 Jewel Movement Wristwatch
This Vintage Bulova was in bad shape. The watch had a major rust issue in the keyless setting, stem and the transmission wheel mechanism. Rusted solid… Because the watch has a really nice aged dial, I decided to try and save it.
The first thing I did was to soak the movement in penetrating oil for a few days. Then remove the rusted parts. None of the rusted parts could be saved. Fortunately, I had a spare parts movement to use. Once all the rust had been removed, the rest of the movement was cleaned. The movement was reassembled with the new parts and lubricated. Regulated balance. The dial and hands were reinstalled and left in their vintage condition. Cleaned the case and polished the crystal. Placed on extended testing. Repair Complete

The first thing I noticed when I removed the case back on the Sea King was the rust on the transmission wheel assembly
With the dial removed on the Sea King, the real rust issue was exposed in the winding and setting mechanism
Bulova 11BLC Movement cleaned and all rust removed
Bulova Movement reassembled with new parts and lubricated
Sea King reassembled and regulated
The water leak that resulted in the rust also created this beautiful one-of-a-kind aged dial and hands
The true beauty of the dial comes out in the sun. A slight green patina which is unique. Bulova Sea King Restoration Complete
