The Seiko 6139 Automatic Chronograph with Day/Date function was so named the “Pogue” after NASA Astronaut Colonel William Pogue. in 1973 Colonel Pogue was leading the first space station the Sky Lab 4 that was performing various tests in preparation of the Space Shuttle Missions that were to follow later. Colonel Pogue took with him his Seiko 6139 that he bought in the PX at Ellington Airforce Base and used it in training because he was not issued his official Omega Speedmaster yet. He used the Seiko to time various things like engine burns and so on. In 2008 someone discovered after looking at pictures of the Sky Lab 4 Mission that the Seiko was used. The watch was then credited to be the first Automatic Chronograph watch used in space. This made the watch very famous and is sought after by collectors to this day.
